Photo Essay

My photo essay is entitled, "A Day in the Face of Evil." Why the dramatic title, you ask? Well, for my WISN 12 internship I went to a Nazi meeting that I found out about. It was incredibly disturbing, to say the least. I mean, it's one thing to hear about these kinds of beliefs, but it's quite another to see it in person and actually hearing it said right to your face. They called themselves the National Socialist Movement, and they actually have their headquarters in Minnesota. They had about 30 people at the meeting, and they had speakers from as far away as Kentucky. Also, an 88-year old man named Theodore Junker was there, who was recently in the news for building a memorial to Hitler at his home. The whole time I confess I was at a bit of a loss for words, and I was incredibly relieved when it was over. The picture shown here is one of the first I took, when I first arrived at the building where the meeting was.

The Portrait

Ok, next up for my class we have our portrait projects. As I understand it, this means we have to photograph a few people, then the class is gonna guess whether we know them or not. I missed quite a few opportunities with this project, because I was in Madison on Saturday for Halloween. And wouldn't you know it, just as I was about to take a picture of a woman dressed up as a ThunderCat, and I find out my camera's battery is out. Can't tell you how frustrated I got!!! But I still got some good ones, and you can see em all on Flckr. Here's one of more interesting photos, one of my boyfriend's eye.

And ladies and gentlemen, we next have my photos from my document project. For my document, I decided to photograph the "counterculture" places in Milwaukee that don't seem to get enough attention. Most of these places are in Riverwest, but the first place I photographed is actually on the East Side. It's called the People's Book's but now it's a co-op, meaning people actually volunteer there. As you can guess, it has a lot of leftist literature, some of which is hard to find elsewhere. The rest of my photos on Flickr are all photos from Riverwest.

Light Project

Hey, new post everyone! (Finally!) So, a few weeks ago we had a project to document light, that was interesting...my digital camera I had for a few years broke of course...so I was using this crappy disposable camera to take all my photos. And wouldn't you know, the stupid flash button stuck, so I couldn't turn it off!!! Ah well, you gotta laugh at that kinds of things or you go nuts..and the pictures turned out all right too. Just have to get a new camera, figure out the issues I've had loading pictures on here, and this blog will be a lot more interesting, I assure you. Here's one of the pics from my light project. It's a view from my apartment window.

Helllloooo allll

So, my first post...won't be too interesting, but since I'm being forced to do this for a class it'll get more interesting, I promise you. (Funny how motivated you can be when your grades depend on something.) Hi, I'm a college student, hopefully more people will be interested in what I have to say. Til next time!
